If you aren’t familiar with this word, it simply means ‘the act of removing contents and emptying something out.’

Anyone who has ever gone on a wholeness journey understands that the ‘evacuation phase’ is very important to finding wholeness. This is when you go down memory lane and excavate memories and experiences that have occurred in your life and the impact that they have made in your life.

If you have never done this before, this week, I challenge you to follow through 3 simple steps:

  • Find a quiet place:

You need a quiet place and quietness of mind to be able to go through this process. It is important that you are not rushed and you set apart some time to be able to do this without interruptions.

  • Pray

I advise that before you start this process. You take time out to pray. This exercise is not a physical one but a spiritual one. Only God has the capacity to highlight the areas of our lives that need to be dealt with. Some of the experiences we have gone.

through are things that we readily remember. However, there are some experiences that need to be brought to our memory. Ask the Lord to bring up whatever negative experiences that have impacted your life.

  • Journal

After this prayer, write down in a notepad, the experiences that come up to your mind. Make sure that you hold nothing back. Allow the experiences flow and embrace the feelings that come with them. Identify and name the feelings that come with remembering those experiences and write them down.

Remember that this process can be uncomfortable and painful. Do not be under pressure to conclude this process in a hurry. Take your time and stay through to the process.

Remember that it is better to go through this process now and deal with these issues now than carry this baggage throughout your life.

In the next blog, we will be dealing with what to do after excavation.
